In a time when staying on trend is easier than ever, with fast fashion making it plausible to do so, there is a lot of waste and over-consumption. If you are looking through your closet and thinking of getting rid of a few items, keep the following in find. First there are five R’s; refuse, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle. You should refer to these 5 R’s in that order with refusing being the best option and recycling being the worst. After that, then it is time to consider buying from ethical brands.

Before even getting to the stage of donating, refuse buying extra clothes when you make a purchase. When there are sales flashing at you and companies telling you to “buy now,” refuse and say “no” to impulse buying. Major retailers like Zara and H&M lure customers in with items that are on sale or overly cheap prices. But stay strong and refuse to give in.

Second is reducing the amount of clothes. Before buying, consider whether these new items will add value to your closet and will become staples. Many times, people buy things because they see “potential” in an item. Believing that if one day they are feeling confident they will wear this “potential” item. But let’s be honest you need clothes that work now.

Next is to reuse by simply wearing clothes more than a handful of times. Clothes should be meant for longevity, not for a one-time…
